ATTRACTIONS OF JOWAI
Nartiang:
- 10 kms from Jowai.
- Summer capital of Jaintia kings.
- Main attractions are the huge stone memorials (monoliths) of the Jaintias.
Durga Temple:
- 10 kms from Jowai.
- In front of the arched gateway of the red bricks stands the Durga Temple.
- After modification on the roof looks like a Church.
- There is a tunnel that reaches the river Myntang.
Khim Moo Sniang:
- A rock in the shape of a pig.
- ‘Moo’ is stone and ‘Sniang’ refers to pig.
Thadlaskein Lake:
- 8 kms from Jowai on NH 44.
- Historic lake is said to be dug with arrow heads by the subjects of Sajar Nangli, the war leader of the Jaintias.
- A popular picnic spot of the region.
- Boating facilities are available in the lake.
Umhang Lake:
- Lake situated at Wataw (Bataw) village.
- Sajar Nangli digging this magnificent lake and named is Umhang Lake.
Kiang Nongbah Monument:
- 6 kms from Jowai on the banks of the Myntdu River.
- Known as "Madiah Kmal Blai" stands a monument dedicated to Kiang Nongbah.
Syntu Ksiar:
- Situated on the bank of the Myntdu River.
- Syntu Ksiar meaning flower of Gold.
- Ideal place for picnic and angling.
Stone Bridge:
- 16 kms from Jowai on the Jowai Muktapur road at Thlumuwi.
- Bridge consists of huge well hewn granite stone slabs perched on equally similar pillars.
- Beside the Stone Bridge is Muwi Waterfalls.
Dawki:
- 55 kms from Jowai.
- Umngot River and surrounding natural beauty.
- Boating race on Umngot River held during the March and April.
- Between Jaintia Hills and Khasi Hills is a single span suspension bridge.

Lawmusiang:

Umlawan Cave:

- Largest and deepest cave in the sub-continent.
- 21 kms length and 100 meters depth.
- Umlawan cave is interconnected with two other caves Kot-Sati and Umskor.
Lady of Good Health Shrine:
- Situated at Raliang village 32 kms from Jowai.
- A magnificent triple storied octagonal structure.
- An imposing statue of Lady of Good Health made of white marble.
Borghat Temple:
- Situated close to Bangladesh border.
- This temple dedicated to Hindu Religion of the region.
Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake:
- Located at Jarain of Jaintia region.
- The greenery of the low lying hillock around the lake.
- Lake sits are gravelled footpaths, arch bridges, pitcher plant garden and green house.

Krang Suri Falls:
- Beautiful waterfall of Amlarem Civil Sub Division.

Lalong Park:

- Overlooking the beautiful Pynthorwah Valley.
Tyrshi Falls:
- 5 kms from Jowai on the way Jowai-Shillong road.
- Tyrshi falls thundering down to the Pyntghor (paddy-fields) below.
- A breathtaking and panoramic view of the Pynthor Nein to the bottom of the falls.
